Prostate Cancer Information

Cancer is the most dreaded disease all over the world. Millions of people all around the globe fall prey to this death call every year. Among men, skin cancer is the number one type of cancer. Next in line is prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is common in men who are over 50 years old. Hence, people greater than this age should regularly get their health checked. This is because early detection of this cancer can help in curing it completely.

The position of the prostate gland is at the neck of the urinary bladder. This gland is made up of five lobes. As the gland enlarges due to cancer, the patient suffers from problems in urination. This is one of the major symptoms of prostate cancer. The problem associated with this type of cancer is that it is very hard to detect. The symptoms of prostate cancer are very easily disguised. Hence it is only through medical examination that one can confirm the presence of cancerous cells in the body. Hence, men aged more than 50 years should go for regular health check-ups so that even if cancer exists, it can be detected in its infancy.

As said earlier, the symptoms of prostate cancer are easily disguised. Also, the symptoms vary in different people. The visibility of the symptoms also depends on the spread of the cancer. But there are certain symptoms which are common and easily detectable. These are difficulty in urination, pain and burning during urination and blood during urination. As the spread of cancer increases, the urine flow reduces. Hence there is greater need to go for urination after short periods of time. Prostate cancer patients mainly experience pain in the pelvic and spinal region.

As stated above, prostatic cancer is common in men whose age has crossed the 50 year mark. It is most common in men over 65. Race of the individual also plays an important role in prostate cancer. American Africans are more susceptible to prostate cancer as compared to Asians.

Another factor which determines the occurrence of prostate cancer is food intake. High consumption of saturated fats only gives an invitation to prostate cancer. High fiber intake not only prevents cancer but helps get rid of obesity as well. Consumption of soy products also helps in reducing chances of prostate cancer. Tomatoes help in preventing cancer as they contain Lycopene which helps in stopping growth of the prostate gland. Doctors also suggest high intake of fruits and raw vegetables to shield from cancer. Fruits and vegetables provide high amounts of vitamins which help in fighting against diseases. Prostate cancer also spreads through heredity. Hence if anyone from your family has suffered from prostate cancer, it is better for you to always stay on guard and alert.

Thus, proper diet and regular health check-ups will help you prevent the occurrence of prostate cancer. Always consult your doctor on a regular basis to stay healthy and fit.
